What is the Solana Generating Station Project?

The Solana Generating Station is a solar electric power plant that will be located about
70 miles southwest of Phoenix near Gila Bend, Arizona. Solana will use concentrating solar power (CSP) technology coupled with the ability to store energy during non-
sunlight hours, to better meet Arizona resident's peak demand.

Project Components:

  • A new CSP electric generation facility, which if in operation today, would be the largest solar power plant in the world.
  • A double circuit 230-kilovolt (kV) transmission line to interconnect generation from the Project site with Arizona Public Service Company's (APS') Gila Bend Substation.
  • Upgrades to the Existing Gila Bend Substation.
