The Arizona Corporation Commission approved the Certificates of Environmental Compatibility for the Solana Generating Station and associated 230-kilovolt (kV) transmission line on December 11th, 2008.

What is the Solana Generating Station Project?

The Solana Generating Station is a solar electric power plant that will be located about
70 miles southwest of Phoenix near Gila Bend, Arizona. Solana will use concentrating solar power (CSP) technology coupled with the ability to store energy during non-
sunlight hours, to better meet Arizona resident's peak demand.

Project Components:

  • A new 280MW CSP electric generation facility, which if in operation today, would be the largest solar power plant in the world.
  • A new 230-kilovolt (kV) transmission line to interconnect with Arizona Public
    Service Company's (APS) transmission system.
  • Interconnection to an APS substation in the Gila Bend area.
